Hulu’s Castle Rock gets its first full-length trailer, packed with nods to classic Stephen King works.

The first teaser trailer for Hulu’s new take on Stephen King’s famous town relied heavily on mentions of titles of King’s library. The intertwined map connecting It to Cujo to The Shawshank Redemption made Castle Rock look like Pennywise would be taking a stroll through the prison will pet-sitting a rabid dog.

The second trailer, with no dialogue, portrayed creepy out of context shots that seemingly have nothing to do with one another.

But the latest trailer carves out exactly what Sam Shaw & Dustin Thomason wanted to do with their series — pay homage to King, but create something new. Castle Rock does what King fans have done for years, but on a Hollywood-scale — draw the lines between King’s most haunting tales and explore what happens in the shadows left unexplored.

‘Castle Rock’ trailer

What exactly would force someone to live within a few miles of Shawshank State Prison? How could anyone stick around an area where a rabid dog killed four people? And what exactly is it about Castle Rock that invites the strange and unusual?

Bill Skarsgård is certainly not donning his makeup as the infamous dancing clown, but he is possibly even more chilling without it in the trailer. The mysterious appearance of his character appears to have set off some of the events currently plaguing Castle Rock and Shawshank State Prison.

André Holland’s character flips through clippings from the town’s tragic history that allude to the attacks in Cujo. Prisoners, guards, and the town folk recognize that something is askew and it probably feels like it did before.

So as tons of people wander into the woods, the streets, seemingly driven by some force outside of their control, Skarsgård’s finale line looms — “You have no idea what’s happening here, do you?”

It’s creepy, dark, and definitely inviting viewers to unpack the mysteries buried underneath King’s original town of Castle Rock, Maine.

The official synopsis for the show reads: A psychological-horror series set in the Stephen King multiverse, Castle Rock is an original story that combines the mythological scale and intimate character storytelling of King’s best-loved works, weaving an epic saga of darkness and light, played out on a few square miles of Maine woodland.

The first three episodes of Castle Rock hit Hulu on July 25, 2018.
