Castle was back in action this week with a slightly more lighthearted episode. “Reality Star Struck” takes a look at the world of reality TV stars and what happens when one of the stars is murdered.

This episode is also used as a Valentine episode. In the opening scene, after the discovery of the body, we learn that Ryan and his wife are trying to get pregnant which leads to some very funny scenes later in the episode.

Castle and Beckett are caught up in the world of The Wives of Wall Street as they try to figure out who killed one of the reality actresses with a penchant for other people’s husbands. Gina Torres plays one of the wives who was crossed by the victim, but is not in fact the killer.

The best part about this episode is that the always stern Captain Gates is obsessed with The Wives of Wall Street. She even makes the others watch episodes to help with the case. Castle ends up staying up all night watching the show and becoming as addicted as Gates.

In the end, the killer is one of the women crossed by the power hungry victim. But while finding the killer is important, it sometimes takes a backseat to the other aspects of this episode. First Castle accidentally puts Beckett’s Valentine’s present in Captain Gates’ jacket pocket. The big question is: did he put Kate’s name on the card? Then Esposito has a mystery Valentine’s date that in the end turns out to be just what fans have been waiting for. In the end Beckett’s gift to Castle is incredibly sweet, and leads to more questions about where their relationship is going next.

Overall the episode was lighthearted and fun. Next week’s episode, however, looks anything but. Check out the promo and synopsis below regarding the two-part story arc which will include the introduction of Castle’s father.

Synopsis: In the first of a two-episode story arc, Castle and Beckett begin a murder investigation that also exposes a plot to kidnap the daughter of a wealthy Middle Eastern businessman.
