The Coen Brothers, two of the most prolific filmmakers working today, are beginning to piece together their next project, Inside Llewyn Davis, which is set during the 1960’s folk music scene. Read more for a full casting roundup featuring the likes of Justin Timberlake, John Goodman, Oscar Isaac, and Carey Mulligan.

The film is loosely based off the life of Dave Van Ronk, a folk singer from Greenwich Village who was friends with the likes of Bob Dylan during the early 1960’s. The Coen Brothers scripted the film, with frequent collaborator Scott Rudin (No Country for Old Men) producing. Now for some casting news:

Back in mid-October, Deadline reported that Oscar Isaac (Drive) had landed the titular role in the film, as a struggling folk singer trying to make ends meet. With Isaac currently filming The Bourne Legacy with Jeremy Renner (The Hurt Locker), filming on Inside Llewyn Davis is set to begin in January.

Next there is the recent report from Variety that Justin Timberlake was offered a major role in the film, as Jim, a fellow folk singer who meets Isaac’s character. Timberlake’s pedigree as a musician, as well as several pretty solid performances in films such as The Social Network and Alpha Dog would make a pretty good match.

Additionally, Variety reports that Carey Mulligan has been cast as Jean, who is married to Timberlake’s would-be character. In addition to being one of the better young actresses in Hollywood right now, Mulligan showed off her vocal skills in the upcoming Steve McQueen film Shame, so she would seem to fit quite well into the film.

Lastly, Showbiz411 has reported that frequent Coen Brothers collaborator John Goodman (The Big Lebowski) has landed an unspecified role in the film. This will mark their sixth film together, so the fit is quite obvious.

As additional news on the project becomes available, we’ll be sure to update you on them all! What do you think of these developments?
