Mortal Instruments fans may have been excited when the status of the films changed from “In Development” to “Pre-Production” on IMDb.  However, Cassandra Clare herself remains cautiously optimistic regarding the actual production.  The following is posted on her website’s FAQs…

Right now this is all proceeding under the option clause, meaning that the film has not yet been “greenlit” — Hollywoodese for “they are not yet filming it.” What they are doing is developing the books as a film project — right now they’ve nailed down a director (Scott Charles Stewart), a screenwriter (Jessica Postigo) and the first two of the major cast members, Clary (Lily Collins) and Jace (Jamie Campbell-Bower.) Screen Gems has been very good about including me in the process and I am optimistic.

Moreover, w e-mailed Clare to get more clarification, and she replied to us with the following:

Pre-production isn’t greenlit. Production is. Sorry!

So it looks like The Mortal Instruments fans will have to wait even longer to find out with absolute certainty whether we will get to enjoy Jace and Clary on the big screen.
