HBO may be working on multiple Game of Thrones spinoffs, but chances are we won’t see most of them.

Just last month, we learned that the premium cable network was working on not one, but four Game of Thrones spinoffs set to follow the hit fantasy series after it wraps up in two seasons. Now, HBO programming president Casey Bloys is offering some clarification to those claims.

Bloys recently sat down with EW where he explained that while there are multiple Game of Thrones spinoffs in the works, that doesn’t necessarily mean each idea will get the green light.

“In the press at large, everybody said, ‘there are four spinoffs’ and they assume that it means each one is happening and we’re going to have a new Game of Thrones show per quarter. That’s not what’s going on,” explained Bloys. “The idea is not to do four shows. The bar set by [showrunners David Benioff and DB Weiss] is so high that my hope is to get one show that lives up to it.”

While we’re sure there are plenty of Game of Thrones fans who would love to see multiple spinoffs eventually make their way over to HBO, Bloys’ clarification on what’s going on behind the scenes makes much more sense.

Game of Thrones was certainly a runaway hit for HBO, and there’s no denying it’s captivated audiences for years. That being said, despite the large fandom, there’s no telling whether or not the same amount of viewers will tune in for any proposed follow-up HBO could be cooking up.

For now, we’ll just have to settle for enjoying the last two seasons we’ll be getting of Game of Thrones before the series wraps for good.

Game of Thrones season 7 premieres July 16 on HBO.
