Following on from the Carter Bays interview we posted earlier, some more quotes have been released where he previews the next episode and discusses the Barney/Robin relationship. Beware of spoilers.

Carter Bays tells EW that the next episode, which airs on Dedember 5, is one of the best episodes they have ever done. Yet, he is worried about how fans will react:

You know, honestly, I hope people stay on board after the next episode. I think there’s some incredible acting in it, and it’s a really nicely told story that we’re very pleased with. But… this Barney and Robin stuff is a third rail for our show in a good way. It’s nice to get a little jolt every now and then, but it is so divisive among fans from what I’ve gathered. So hopefully people will enjoy the story for what it is. But yeah, we’re nervous about where the story goes. Excited, and very proud of it, but I hope people stay on board. I think they will. [But] our first loyalty is to reality.

He also discusses Marshall and Lily’s potential move to the suburbs, and indicates that they won’t be moving any time soon.

They have made this decision and we’ll see where the series goes. Obviously without Marshall and Lily sitting in the bar with the rest of the gang, there’s no show, so, again, the wheel isn’t done turning. I can’t reveal too much more than that.

How do you feel about the Barney/Robin relationship? Does it help and hurt the show? And why will the next episode be controversial?
