The first teaser trailer for Carrie, Kimberly Peirce’s (Boys Don’t Cry) remake of the classic Stephen King story, has arrived online in all its fiery and bloody glory.

A retelling of the classic Stephen King story which got the feature film treatment in 1976, this marks the first footage we’ve seen from Carrie, in the form of a minute-long teaser that doesn’t show too much. The teaser trailer originally debuted via Yahoo!, but you can take a look below.

From the looks of the teaser, we’re in store for another very dark, very bloody take on Carrie. Although considering the source material, what else can you expect? Looking at Moretz in the lead role, covered in blood, one can’t help be reminded of Let Me In, which certainly proved Moretz more than capable of handling such a violent character.

Apart from the Stephen King novel, Carrie was an Oscar-nominated 1976 film from Brian De Palma starring Sissy Spacek in the titular role which Moretz now takes over. This film features an impressive supporting cast, including the likes of Julianne Moore (Boogie Nights), Judy Greer (The Descendants), Alex Russell (Chronicle), Portia Doubleday (Youth in Revolt), newcomer Ansel Elgort, and Gabriella Wilde (The Three Musketeers).

Carrie marks director Kimberley Peirce’s first film since 2008’s Stop-Loss, which is her only other feature since her heartbreaking, Oscar-winning film Boys Don’t Cry in 1999. The film tells the story of “a sheltered high school girl who unleashes her newly developed telekinetic powers after she is pushed too far by her peers and her unstable mother (Moore).” It’s unclear as of yet how much, if at all, this adaptation strays from the source material.

Carrie features a new adaption by Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa, who has previously worked as a writer and producer on Glee. The film finished filming earlier in the year, and ScreenGems will distribute the film on March 15, 2013.
