Carrie Fisher’s General Leia will have some sort of role in Star Wars: Episode 9, even though the actress didn’t film anything for the installment prior to her death.

Fisher died at the end of 2016 after suffering from a cardiac arrest on a transatlantic flight. She had already completed filming on Star Wars: The Last Jedi, which is set to hit theaters this December. Disney later said that there would be no changes made to Episode 8 in light of Fisher’s death.

That’s left one question still a mystery: How will Lucasfilm write out Leia in Episode 9? Reports have indicated that Leia was to have a major role in the movie, which is due out in 2019.

Leia will still appear in the movie, but Lucasfilm may only be working with old footage of the actress in character. Speaking to the New York Daily News this week, Carrie Fisher’s brother Todd said that he and Carrie’s daughter gave Lucasfilm the “rights to use recent footage for the finale.”

“She’s as much a part of it as anything and I think her presence now is even more powerful than it was, like Obi Wan — when the saber cuts him down he becomes more powerful. I feel like that’s what’s happened with Carrie. I think the legacy should continue,” he said.

While Todd didn’t share any information about how Leia will be involved, he did say it’s not exactly up to him. “I’m not the only part in that equation, but I think the people deserve to have her. She’s owned by them,” he said, referring to the fans and their love for Carrie.

Todd is confident they’ll “do great things.”
