Academy Award winner Cate Blanchett and Rooney Mara struggle with love during the 1950s in the latest trailer for Carol.

Carol, directed by Todd Haynes, has gotten some great reviews and Oscar buzz after it hit Cannes Film Festival, where Rooney Mara received a best actress award for her performance. Watch the film’s new trailer below:

The film, set in the 1950s, is about Cate Blanchett’s character being in an unhappy marriage with Friday Night Lights actor Kyle Chandler. Rooney Mara (The Social Network, The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo) plays a department store clerk (with a Santa hat), and during a chance meeting the two women find love.

The new Carol trailer has some beautiful looking shots, showing a string of emotions between a lesbian couple who are stuck in the impossible situation of attempting to be together in the conservative 1950s.

Cate Blanchett has done some of her best work in the last few years, with her amazing performance in Blue Jasmine winning her an Academy Award for Best Actress in 2013.

Rooney Mara continues to bring her best, with her standout role being in The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo, and more recently in Steven Soderbergh’s Side Effects. She’ll also be appearing in the upcoming Peter Pan remake as Tiger Lily, alongside Hugh Jackman.

The film was written by screenwriter Phyllis Nagy, which is based on author Patricia Highsmith’s novel titled The Price of Salt.

Carol will hit some more festivals in the coming months, with its U.S. release date set for November 20.
