Marvel’s first female-led movie is finally filming. The studio has announced that principal photography on Captain Marvel is officially underway!

In a statement, Marvel says filming will take place in Los Angeles, Fresno, Baton Rogue, and New Orleans. The news was accompanied by a photo, above, of Captain Marvel star Brie Larson at Nellis Air Force Base in Nevada with Brigadier General Jeannie Leavitt, a 57th Wing Commander, as the actress researched her role.

Disney’s synopsis for Captain Marvel reads: “The story follows Carol Danvers as she becomes one of the universe’s most powerful heroes when Earth is caught in the middle of a galactic war between two alien races. Set in the 1990s, Captain Marvel is an all-new adventure from a previously unseen period in the history of the Marvel Cinematic Universe.”

The movie will be released March 8, 2019 under the direction of Anna Boden and Ryan Fleck. The Hollywood duo wrote the movie.

Captain Marvel’s full cast was also released today, and we’re learning that there are a couple of established MCU stars appearing. The cast list is as follows: Samuel L. Jackson (Nick Fury), Ben Mendelsohn, Djimon Hounsou (Korath the Pursuer from Guardians of the Galaxy), Lee Pace (Ronan the Accuser, again from GOTG), Lashana Lynch, Gemma Chan, Algenis Perez Soto, Rune Temte, McKenna Grace, Clark Greg (Agent Coulson from Avengers and S.H.I.E.L.D.), and Jude Law.

As is usually the case with Marvel movies, we wouldn’t be surprised if there was a surprise appearance or two from other popular MCU characters.
