Captain Marvel earned $61.4 million at the domestic box office on its opening night.

That sum makes it the seventh highest grossing movie in the MCU for an opening night. The first female-led MCU movie comes in behind the higher grossing Black Panther, Civil War, Iron Man 3, The Avengers, Avengers: Age of Ultron, and Avengers: Infinity War.

Captain Marvel‘s $61.4 million domestic take includes the $20 million generated from Thursday night early screenings across the country. The domestic box office combines with the film’s international earnings of $127 million for a whopping $188.4 million opening night total.

The weekend’s not over yet though. Disney is still projecting another $83-93 million box office take domestically for the movie’s opening weekend. This could either help, hurt, or solidify Captain Marvel’s ranking among the other 20 MCU offerings.

So far, reviews for Captain Marvel have been good, with the film earning a “Certified Fresh” rating on Rotten Tomatoes with a Tomatometer score of 79%. If you haven’t gotten out to see the movie yet, that sounds like a great reason to get your tickets!
