Captain Marvel might not be in theaters until March, but that hasn’t stopped people from posting negative reviews of it on Rotten Tomatoes.

Fans are incredibly excited to see Brie Larson portray Carol Danvers, aka Captain Marvel, on the big screen. And while anticipation is high for many of us to see the MCU’s first standalone superhero movie led by a female superhero, there are some that aren’t as thrilled by this huge MCU moment.

The movie doesn’t release until March 8, and hasn’t yet been screened to preview audiences yet. But, as the Hollywood Reporter says, it hasn’t stopped a wave of bad reviews from hitting Captain Marvel’s Rotten Tomatoes page.

The movie is being lambasted by some of the internet’s more unsavory characters for pandering to “SJWs” or Social Justice Warriors. Marvel’s choice to feature a female lead and allowing Brie Larson to request that the Captain Marvel press tour doesn’t just feature a bunch of white, male movie critics set off the bad review firestorm.

Unfortunately, this isn’t the first time that a film promoting diversity was attacked online by individuals who hadn’t seen the film and wanted to complain about diversity. Marvel saw several fake accounts to attack Black Panther, the first MCU standalone hero film with a Black superhero (and a primarily Black cast). Outside of the MCU, Star Wars Episode VIII: The Last Jedi saw similar hate, and online attackers even went as far as to bully both Daisy Ridley and Kelly Marie Tran off social media.

Obviously, Marvel isn’t sweating too much over these hate-reviews that don’t address the film itself and just feature someone upset about changing social norms. However, the fact that people continue to spread hate about films that promote diversity highlights the very reason we need movies like Captain Marvel, Black Panther, and The Last Jedi.

If you want to support Captain Marvel and Marvel’s push to be more inclusive both on and off camera, you can by seeing the movie when it hits theaters on March 8.
