Because its title is specific to the United States, Captain America: The First Avenger’s subtitle was almost its actual title overseas.

Marvel was worried about marketing their new movie in some parts of the world because its star is a 71-year-old, Nazi-fighting superhero named Captain America. Paramount and Marvel decided they would truncate the films title and call it The First Avenger in foreign countries, seeing as overseas showings can make up more than 70 percent of a movie’s box office revenue.

Taking all this into consideration, Paramount and Marvel have decided to keep the Captain America title in all but 3 countries, Russia, the Ukraine, and South Korea, thinking that its brand-value will be enough for its overseas market.
