The weekend box-office numbers are in and Paramount is certainly pleased as Captain America: The First Avenger has turned in an impressive domestic total. Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows – Part 2, meanwhile, suffered a huge drop, but was it big enough to fall into second for the weekend?

Captain America: The First Avenger has mustered up an impressive $65.8 million for the weekend, making for the largest opening for a Superhero movie this Summer.

A less fortunate story for Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows – Part 2, as after posting a record-breaking opening last weekend, Potter suffered a 72% fall and is estimated to sit at $48.1 million at weekend’s end. Despite this tremendous fall, Deathly Hallows – Part 2 still holds the record for a Potter films 10-day total, at 272.2 million.

Here’s the top five for the weekend:

1. Captain America: The First Avenger – $65.8 million
2. Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows – Part 2 – $48.1 million
3. Friends with Benefits – $18.5 million
4. Transformers: Dark of the Moon – $12 million
5. Horrible Bosses – $11.7 million

Do you think these numbers are as shocking as some make them out to be?
