Despite its massive cast, Sebastian Stan says Civil War is still “very much a Captain America film.”

Marvel fans are counting down the days to the trailer premiere of Captain America: Civil War. The third and final instalment of Steve Rogers’ saga is set to be emotional, action-packed and beyond anything we’ve seen before.

And yet, it might be concerning to learn that almost every single Avenger — and Avenger-adjacent — will be popping up in Civil War, potentially diluting storylines and central conflicts, and taking time away Captain America (Chris Evans) himself.

Well you can all relax now, because Sebastian Stan is here to ease your worries.

Stan, who plays Bucky Barnes/the Winter Soldier, has spoken to Collider about his role in Civil War, and has some comforting words for worried fans.

“I know everybody’s treating it like there are all these Avengers in it, like it’s Avengers 2.5 or something, and there’s an element of that, but it’s still at the end of the day very much a Captain America film,” Stan says.

“It’s different from The Avengers, it’s definitely its own entity, totally connects to the last Winter Soldier film, and the Russo [Brothers]’ stamp is all over it.”

Warning: Mild spoilers for Captain America: Civil War below!

Stan goes into more detail about his own role in the movie, which seems to be pretty substantial.

“[Winter Soldier was] just sort of like a preview of the guy, which we get so much more of in Civil War,” he says, and promises that he’s got a lot more dialogue in this movie.

Teasing conflicting loyalties (yeah right, we know he’s Team Steve all the way), Stan teases, “You’re always trying to guess what side is he on or … because he can go both ways.”

Notably, Stan says that the Ant-Man post-credits scene featuring Steve, Bucky and Sam (Anthony Mackie) takes place “somewhere in the middle” of Civil War. Looks like Bucky Barnes won’t swing right back around to being Steve’s best friend — but clearly, his loyalties are cemented well enough to place him on Cap’s side of the poster.
