In a new interview, Chris Evans reveals that he would be more than willing to play Captain America after he’s finished his contract with Marvel that ends with Avengers: Infinity Wars 1 & 2.

While Evans has always said he’d like to move on from acting and start directing more, it seems that he’s very happy with the work that Marvel has been putting out. He seems content to do Marvel films which involve Cap’s story, while taking on side projects which he can direct.

While speaking to Collider on whether the actor would consider playing Captain America after his contract is up, he says, “Listen, if Marvel wants me they got me. I’ve never had such a relationship where you have such — I mean look at my resume, I’m used to being on set being like, ‘Ah is this movie gonna be terrible?’”

He continued, complimenting Marvel by saying, “Marvel just can’t stop making great movies, they do it in their sleep. It’s wonderful directors and producers and actors and scripts, and it’s like a playground as an actor.”

The actor also talked about how crazy it was that he ended up taking the role, saying, “It’s so mind-boggling that I was so tentative in the beginning to jump on board. What an asshole I would be if I hadn’t done this. I mean can you imagine? Kicking myself — I’d never forgive myself!”

We can’t imagine anyone else playing Cap now, but it’s pretty mind-blowing to think about how his entire career changed when he took the role of Steve Rogers. He went from making parody movies to being in some of the biggest movies in the world. Watch the full interview over at Collider.

He’s an excellent actor, and one of the best parts of the Avengers, and we can’t wait to see him face off against Iron Man and crew in Captain America: Civil War.
