Looks like Captain American 4 is officially on the way!

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Marvel Studios has tapped Malcolm Spellman to develop a fourth Captain America film, effectively continuing the blockbuster hit franchise.

News of Spellman’s involvement with Captain American 4 comes hot on the heels of the release of the final episode in Disney+ and Marvel’s The Falcon and the Winter Soldier limited series debuting via the streamer on Friday (April 23).

Spellman, of course, is the head writer and showrunner on the aforementioned Marvel series, which picks back up with the titular characters following the events of Avengers: Endgame. The story heavily centers on Sam Wilson’s (Anthony Mackie) journey to coming to grips with whether or not he’ll choose to wield the shield and pick up the mantle following the conclusion of Chris Evans’ run as Steve Rogers.

No casting announcements or further plot details for Captain American 4 have been specified, but it seems more than likely that the fourth installment of the film franchise will continue to explore Sam’s tenure as the titular superhero.

Also unclear is whether or not Chris Evans will return in some form or another for the fourth installment of the franchise. Evans’ involvement might not seem likely given way Endgame close the book on Steve Rogers’ story, but rumors that he might reprise his role as Cap began swirling earlier this year.

Either way, we’ll be looking forward to hearing more details with regards to Marvel’s plans for Captain America 4 as the project moves further into production.

Currently, there’s no word on when we might expect to see Captain America 4 hit the big screen.
