Captain America: The Winter Soldier doesn’t hit theaters until April 4, but Marvel must be happy with the film as Anthony and Joe Russo will be back to direct the third film.

Variety reports that while Marvel has no comment, a source has told them that the duo will be back to direct the third Captain America film.

While negotiations won’t begin until after The Winter Soldier hits theaters, Marvel is said to be “impressed” with the way the sequel has turned out. Test screenings are reportedly going over very well and the studio has decided to move forward with the Russo brothers.

While it’s not surprising, considering the actors were already signed on for a third film, it’s important to note that only Jon Favreau (Iron Man) and Joss Whedon (Avengers) have directed a sequel for Marvel studios.

No word on the writer or release date for Captain America 3, but sources report that Anthony and Joe Russo are already focusing on the third film’s story arc. Marvel President Kevin Feige is normally reluctant to sign directors for their sequels prior to their film hitting theaters, it seems he’s happy with the way the second film turned out.

Marvel has become known for scheduling films years ahead of time and this vote of confidence will surely give the cast and crew of Captain America: The Winter Soldier a good feeling as they head into their promotional tour.

Captain America: The Winter Soldier will hit theaters April 4, 2014. The sequel stars Chris Evans, Scarlett Johansson, Anthony Mackie, Robert Redford, Sebastian Stan, Frank Grillo and Samuel L. Jackson.
