Black Widow was the main Avenger who joined Chris Evans in Captain America: The Winter Soldier, but it looks like Jeremy Renner may get a shot at being the superheroes’ sidekick in Captain America 3.

In a recent interview with Collider, Hawkeye actor Jeremy Renner mentioned being insanely busy, but that, “There are rumblings of [Hawkeye appearing in] Captain America 3. I don’t know what’s going to happen there. I’ve got to find the time, man (laughs). I’m trying to stay home and I can’t.”

We know that the actor has a multi-film contract with Marvel and is currently shooting his scenes for The Avengers: Age of Ultron, where his new suit has just been revealed in some images from set seen below:

We also see The Avengers’ director Joss Whedon showing Renner how to get down and shoot his bow (as if he needed the practice) in this newly released image (via Empire):

Hawkeye’s new suit is similar to his previous one in terms of colors and materials, but it has these unique flaps on the bottom of his vest. We’re unsure what their purpose might be, but they weren’t in the previous film. They do remind us of Legolas’ armor designs seen in The Lord of the Rings and The Hobbit films.

Maybe they’re an “archer thing,” and Whedon added them to be more true to Hawkeye’s archer roots. Either way, it’s a unique look and it’s always fun to see a character get a new suit, although not as fun as seeing Robert Downey Jr. in a new Iron Man suit.

Renner was vocal after The Avengers came out that he was keen to actually “play the character he signed up to play.” What he meant was, he signed on to play Hawkeye in multiple films and in the first hour or so of The Avengers he gets turned into a highly skilled lackey for Tom Hiddleston’s beloved Loki.

It would be interesting to see Hawkeye alongside Captain America in the third film, as The Winter Soldier was incredibly successful, but we wouldn’t want to see just more of the same. Adding Hawkeye into the mix would change the film’s entire dynamic, especially if there’s some tension between Scarlett Johansson’s character and Renner’s.

For now Renner will continue his work on The Avengers: Age of Ultron along with the rest of the Avengers and we look forward to finding out if the actor will be joining Chris Evans in Captain America 3, which hits theaters May 6, 2016.
