Variety is reporting that Community executive producers Joe and Anthony Russo are in negotiations to helm Captain America 2 for Marvel Studios and Disney.

In addition to Community, the Russo brothers have also directed episodes of Arrested Development, Happy Endings, as well as the 2006 comedy You, Me and Dupree and 2002’s Welcome to Collinwood.

Christopher Markus and Stephen McFeely, who wrote Captain America: The First Avenger, have returned to pen the sequel. Chris Evans and Samuel L. Jackson are signed on to reprise their roles as Captain America and Nick Fury, respectively.

The film will hit theaters on April 4, 2014. Here’s a quick synopsis that has been released:

The Walt Disney Studios has announced a release date for Marvel Studios’ sequel to the blockbuster Captain America: The First Avenger on April 4, 2014. The second installment will pick-up where the highly anticipated Marvel’s The Avengers (May 4, 2012) leaves off, as Steve Rogers continues his affiliation with Nick Fury and S.H.I.E.L.D and struggles to embrace his role in the modern world.

We reported in March that the Russo brothers were on a short list for the director’s chair. Are you happy to see the Russo brothers on board?
