Netflix CEO Reed Hastings says he’s open to letting subscribers download content from the streaming service in an effort to be anywhere.

Speaking after an earnings call in which Netflix revealed they have surpassed a whopping 80 million subscribers around the world, Hastings told Re/code there’s a need to download their content, so they may fulfill it. “We should keep an open mind on this,” he said. “We’ve been so focused on click-and-watch and the beauty and simplicity of streaming. But as we expand around the world, where we see an uneven set of networks, it’s something we should keep an open mind about.”

While clicking a TV show or movie and having instant access is certainly a luxury, there are many of us who would prefer downloading the content ahead of time.

For starters, downloading content would let you take a full season of Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt, House of Cards, etc. on a flight or on a long road trip. Being able to download it at home before leaving the comforts of wifi would help us all conserve our phone’s data plans. Downloading would be especially helpful before hopping on a flight, because while internet services are available on many domestic airlines these days, the speeds are usually not fast enough to stream Netflix. And what else are you supposed to do while on a plane? Read? Psh.

And speaking of streaming issues, downloading would help prevent stops in playback at home. I consider myself a tech-savvy person — who runs a TV and movie site no less — and yet, my damn Time Warner Cable internet runs into issues streaming Netflix content. If I had the option to download to my Apple TV, I probably would so I could prevent streaming issues. Nothing’s worse than being in the middle of a good scene and having to wait for it to continue. That’s not what the future of television looks like!
