Camilla Luddington, the voice behind Lara Croft in the recent Tomb Raider games has revealed how she feels about the recent movie casting.

When the news broke that Alicia Vikander had been cast as Lara Croft in the Tomb Raider reboot, many fans were wondering why Camilla Luddington hadn’t been cast. She’s been the voice and inspiration behind Lara Croft in the 2013 and 2015 versions of the game. With how active Luddington has become in the gamer world, it’s no wonder fans wanted her to helm the movie version as well.

In an interview with Entertainment Weekly Luddington didn’t seem to have any hard feelings, “I feel like with any Lara Croft, someone is always taking over that role.”

Luddington went on to say, “Of course I would’ve loved to do the live-action movie version of it, but she’s Alicia and she’s amazing. So I’m excited to see her interpretation too of the game.” It’s unclear whether she really tried out for the role, or had been hoping they would reach out to her. Either way it sounds like she’s taken the casting in stride, and she always has Grey’s Anatomy to keep her busy.

It also appears like fans of the video game can expect her to stick around for a while. “I still feel very present within the gaming world,” She said. “So it doesn’t feel like someone has taken the role from me.”

Other fan favorites for the reboot included Daisy Ridley who’s break out role in Star Wars: The Force Awakens has won her a place in the heart of fandom. However, not everyone can be pleased when it comes to filling such an iconic role. We’re hopeful that Vikander will do the role of Lara Croft justice.
