The ultimate will they/won’t they has nothing to do with couples. It has everything to do with who we will or won’t see on Legacies anytime soon.

There’s been a lot of talk about cameos and guest stars and who will or won’t appear on Legacies in season 1 and beyond. It’s hard to keep everyone’s views on appearing in the spinoff straight, so here’s a quick overview of who we’ve heard from and who we haven’t. And those we haven’t heard from, we took an educated guess based on their character’s fate and their willingness to step back into this world again.

One of the most exciting things about watching Legacies as a TVD/The Originals fan is the hope that all our favorites will return to Mystic Falls for a cameo at one point or another. Right now, we are just treasuring season 1 and enjoying all the fun Julie Plec and company have to offer, but it’s fun to think about who might be up for a one episode appearance WHEN Legacies gets a second (or third) season order.

Yes

Zach Roerig

Mystic Falls’ sheriff has already made an appearance, and hopefully we will see him again. It’d be hard to imagine Alaric not having semi-regular interactions with the town sheriff, especially after how regularly Sheriff Forbes found herself working with the Salvatores.

Steven McQueen

We saw a teensy bit of what Jeremy’s role in the Salvatore School is in the TVD finale, but we already know that he will definitely be showing up in Legacies season 1. Whether it will be recurring or not has yet to be seen, but we know we’ll see him soon.

Maybe Yes?

Charles Michael Davis

Marcel’s storyline in The Originals finale definitely hinted at him being involved in Hope’s life. Maybe this will only be an off screen presence, but it would be nice to see Charles Michael Davis pop in once or twice. He is a fantastic character and I’d love to see his relationship with Hope grow.

Riley Voelkel

Freya is currently living her happy ever after with Keelin, but since Riley is currently still employed by the CW (and is working for one of Julie Plec’s friends on Roswell New Mexico), it doesn’t seem too farfetched that maybe she could appear at some point. Hope is going to need her magical mentors as she continues to grow, so either she or Davina needs to pop in at some point.

Michael Trevino

Last we saw Tyler Lockwood, he was standing beside Vicki Donovan watching on as Matt got his bench in the town square. He might not be among the living, but this is the TVD-Universe. Being dead is more an inconvenience than a permanent state. Plus, he, too is working on Roswell, so he’s still around.

Danielle Campbell

Danielle is currently working with Kevin Williamson and Paul Wesley, so while she’s not at the CW any longer, she’s still in the family. Being married to Kol, Davina is definitely someone that Hope would go to in times of trouble, so hopefully Aunt Davina will show up at some point.

Nathaniel Buzolic

The only reason we haven’t put Nathaniel solidly in the “Yes” column is that we are saving that for confirmed appearances. If Nathaniel had his way, Kol would be packing his bags for Mystic Falls right now. We would be happy to see him, that’s for sure.

Unsure

Candace King

Candace King has said that she doesn’t necessarily want to appear on Legacies. When The Originals ended, she and Joseph Morgan had similar answers to this question. Julie Plec seems hopeful that maybe she will change her mind as time goes by, but, for now, we’ll just cross our fingers that we have not seen the last of Caroline Forbes.

Chris Wood

We haven’t heard anything from the man behind Kai Parker. If memory serves, the psychotic head of the Gemini coven is locked away forever, chained to a chair with terrible karaoke playing. This is the TVD-universe after all, though, so we’re pretty sure that he could escape somehow if necessary. Chris just wrapped his time on Supergirl last season, so he might even be available? With the Saltzman twins being Gemini witches, there’s definitely some history there that would be fun to dive into.

Michael Malarkey

Enzo was off to follow Bonnie as she traveled the world. I doubt that we’d see Enzo without Bonnie, but if Legacies has us breaking into the afterlife again in some way, it’s possible that maybe Michael would be game to appear. This is definitely an unsure one.

Claire Holt

Since The Originals wrapped, Claire’s personal life has been her focus as she got married and is now pregnant with a child after a heartbreaking miscarriage. We’re pretty sure she’s just focused on motherhood at the moment, but maybe somewhere down the line Hope’s Aunt Bekah will show for an episode or two. Since Hayley is no longer with us, Rebekah is definitely the closest living tie Hope has to her parents.

Maybe No?

Nathan Parsons

He is appearing on Roswell alongside Riley and Michael, but his character’s arc was pretty neatly wrapped by the end of The Originals. We’d be happy to see him, but it would be strange to pull him back into this world without involving Hayley in some way, shape, or form.

Joseph Morgan

Joseph Morgan, like Candace King, basically said he wasn’t interested in playing Klaus Mikaelson on screen again. That’s not to say that he won’t change his mind at some point, but for now, it’s a no. The Originals just ended, and I’m sure all its stars are anxious to take on new projects, but hopefully a few years from now, Joseph Morgan will consider a cameo.

Dan Gilles

It seems equally unlikely that we will be seeing Uncle Elijah anytime soon. We haven’t forgotten how his story wrapped in The Originals, but he’s been pretty quiet about possibilities for the future. For now, hopefully he will just enjoy his freedom and consider how much fun it would be to don his infamous suits again.

Nina Dobrev

Nina is one of the few that I think could surprise us. We know that Elena and Damon live their lives together in Mystic Falls, so it would be easy to work her into Legacies. She’s very busy at the moment, but that’s not to say that a small cameo or two is out of the question. She’s always been grateful for her time as Elena Gilbert, so we’ll just keep our fingers crossed.

Ian Somerhalder

This one is a giant question mark. Like Elena, we know that it wouldn’t be hard to work him into a Legacies episode or two, but he’s currently busy making a different kind of vampire show on V-Wars. Due to his busy schedule, we put him as a possible no, but there’s definitely more hope for a Damon appearance than for some other characters.

No

Phoebe Tonkin

Phoebe is a busy lady with all sorts of projects going on at the moment, so we probably have seen the last of Hayley. This quote from TVGuide.com also sort of suggests that she is happy to say goodbye, “I think Legacies will have its own new adventures with its own new characters and storylines.”

Paul Wesley

We will not see Stefan Salvatore on Legacies. We might hear his name mentioned a time or two (Stefan Salvatore Memorial Library anyone?), but Paul is pretty happy with how Stefan’s story has wrapped. He will, however, be directing an episode in season 1, and possibly more in future seasons.

Kat Graham

Kat Graham has basically said no. There’s maybe a tiny sliver of wriggle room in there, but this was her response to the press this past summer:

“Anything is possible, but I will say I spent eight years playing this character and I said to my fans last year when we got the Teen Choice Award that I felt like that chapter is closed. I say that with absolute gratitude and appreciation, but I don’t feel like reprising a character that was almost 10 years of my life. I’m very grateful, but I’m not interested.”
