Much excitement has been caused by a picture posted by Modern Family star, Jesse Tyler Ferguson, who plays Mitch on the show. In it, Cam and Mitch are holding hands under a white, flower decorated gazebo. So, is that the ringing of wedding bells we hear?
Underneath the photo posted on Ferguson’s WhoSay account he’s teasingly written, “It’s not what it looks like. Or is it? Guess you’ll have to wait to find out!” It definitely looks like some sort of wedding ceremony, but it’s hard to tell if this is the real deal.
Firstly, it would seem very unusual for Ferguson to be allowed to give away such a big spoiler for the season, especially as it would be highly anticipated by fans. Secondly, with gay marriage outlawed in California, it seems unrealistic that the show would decide to ignore this fact when everything else about it is based in reality.
Mitch and Cam are one of the best known gay couples on TV at the moment, and seeing them married would definitely help to make an impact on gay rights. The actors would certainly be behind it as well, having already lent their support to The Human Rights Campaign’s push for marriage equality by offering to have a ‘modern dinner date’ with two special winners who win the competition, which you can read more about here.
