The cat-tress who portrayed Prim’s Buttercup in The Hunger Games has been recast for Catching Fire, and it’s all thanks to author Suzanne Collins.

In the 2012 movie directed by Gary Ross, Buttercup was a black cat. As eagle eyed readers know, in the book the cat is described as having a “muddy yellow coat.”

A new interview with Catching Fire director Francis Lawrence reveals that producer Nina Jacobsen and Suzanne Collins personally asked for a new cat-tress after fans were somewhat concerned about why a black cat was chosen over one that matches the book’s description.

“They thought the cat from the first movie was not the way he was described in the book,” Lawrence explains in an interview with Yahoo!, “And that had annoyed a bunch of fans, and things like that. So I was happy to get one that felt like the Buttercup of the book.”

Interestingly, Lawrence says that cat problem was one of the only changes Collins requested between the two movies. “That was, quite honestly, the only simple thing, the Buttercup situation. Everything else was working on the story. We worked closely with Suzanne, which was partly why that came up.”

A couple weeks ago we showed you a photo of Prim with Buttercup in her lap. It was the first time we caught sight of the new cat-tress.

As one of our readers pointed out previously, the choice to go with a black-and-white cat for the first film may’ve been made so that his or her colors could match the bleak visuals in District 12.

Yesterday we released our Catching Fire review in which we awarded the film an A- and laid out several book to film comparisons.

Catching Fire arrives in theaters November 22.
