Bad news for both of you who were looking forward to seeing the Buffy the Vampire Slayer franchise rebooted in movie form: the writer of the screenplay Whit Anderson has been taken off the project, leaving the future of the movie in jeopardy.

LA Times’ Hero Complex blog reports that:

The script submitted this past summer by writer Whit Anderson fell far short of expectations and, in the end, was rejected completely.

Now, they are looking for a new writer to take a stab (wink wink) at the project, but “the entire endeavor may have lost some steam.” The producers are well aware of the severe fan backlash to the idea of the popular TV series being rebooted and made into a movie, which fans fear will resemble the original 1992 movie without Joss Whedon’s involvement.

As of now, the future of the Buffy reboot movie remains uncertain. Would you like to see the project scrapped, or would you be interested in seeing it completed without Whedon or any of the original cast?
