Following the demise of Ringer, Sarah Michelle Gellar of Buffy the Vampire Slayer fame is going to star in an upcoming comedy series.

TV Line has learned that Gellar, whose CW drama Ringer was axed after only one season, has landed the lead in a new half-hour comedy series being developed by 20th Century Fox.

Ringer marked Gellar’s big return to the small screen, but sadly it did not resonate with critics as well as fans of hers might have hoped despite its ambitious premise and impressive ensemble cast.

But now, Gellar has set her sights on a new project, this one of the comedic variety. The pilot script for this new (and thus far untitled) series has been penned by Shepard Boucher, who previously wrote for the TBS comedy Men at Work. Former How I Met Your Mother producer David Hemingson and Margaret Riley (executive producer of Love and Other Drugs and Gray Matters)will serve as executive producers on the project.

The pilot has not yet been picked up by a network, but we will keep watching as this story develops.

Do you think Sarah Michelle Gellar’s move into the comedy genre is a good one? After her very versatile work on Buffy and in the Scooby-Doo movies, we know that she can be very funny – and we’re sure they are going to cast an interesting group of supporting actors for her to interact with!

On the topic of Buffy, Hypable’s podcast Vampire Hype is going to be releasing a special episode all about the series within the next couple of days! So stay tuned.
