BTS Bring The Soul: Docu-Series episode 2, “Passion,” tackled the thoughts the members had as they dealt with new struggles on their international tour and looked back on their past.

“We worked hard. When we debuted we woke up at 10 a.m. and got off work at 10 p.m. Now I think ‘How was that even possible?’ that’s how much we really practiced,” BTS member Jung Hoseok opened up the second episode of Bring The Soul: Docu-Series.

The members continued their tour in America, but not without literal aches and pains starting to take their toll on the group.

With a packed schedule of concerts, appearances, and performances for television shows, the members weren’t slowing down anytime soon.

During Bring The Soul: Docu-Series episode 2, they reflect on their journey to get where they are today and how those struggles have helped to continue to fuel their passion for music even with their heightened success.

“That thirst. I think each and every member has this powerful thirst for the stage. You can tell how strong it is.” – Kim Taehyung

“Preciousness? The stage is precious. Being able to do this music has become so precious.” – Jeon Jeongguk

“I think there are seven, identical things that need to go in. It’s the passion for the stage that each member has.” – Kim Seokjin

“These elements all together, constitute the energy. Energy. Energy that makes someone new to us think, ‘I want to join in.’ That kind of energy. Isn’t that at the heart of a BTS performance?” – Kim Namjoon

“The fact that this concert is just as big as our Korean concerts, that we ask ‘Our concert is that big here, too?’ That fact we ask that tells me, ‘Wow we’ve really grown.’” – Kim Taehyung

“The first AX concert that we did, we had about 2,000 people show up. That means now we have 22 to 23 time more people. Those numbers…it’s like a miracle.” – Min Yoongi

“We started small and worked our way up. This is the story we wanted to write. BTS is growing steadily and I think showing who we are to more people is the right thing to be doing right now. That’s why we continue to grow and expand.” – Kim Seokjin

“I mean, really…we came a long way. We started with the AC concert and slowly climbed up. That was really the case. I think because we climbed those steps one by one, the things we have no are so precious to us. That’s how we think. I think focusing on the present itself has been the biggest driving force for us. That process.” – Jung Hoseok

“For our first concerts, we didn’t have that many songs. We barely filled the set list. We had to do 26 songs but we didn’t have that much choreography. And we weren’t even sure if people will like it. We only had a few songs. We even said, ‘Should we do a cover or something?’ We had just our songs on the set list, no covers. We didn’t even have a hit song yet. This was before ‘I NEED U’ so trying to have a concert with that was hard. And the choreo. We put together a ton of choreography for that concert. I think about that the most. So we talked about how I hope we’ll have a hit song soon, so we can finally choose. Have some choices. Back then, we felt poor in our hearts.” – Kim Namjoon

“Seeing it and doing it are totally different. For the medley, songs where we don’t have choreography, it feels like it’s not as fun. ‘I need to do more,’ that’s what I start thinking. I don’t know. I get nervous, so I go even harder. When it’s over, I’ve been breathing so hard that my clavicle actually hurts. I got better quickly, though.” – Park Jimin

“I think every situation is different. When we’re not touring, I wish I was performing. When I’m performing, I just want to sit and write songs.” – Min Yoongi

“They’ll say I’m a composer, and they’ll mention Beethoven or Mozart pictures of conductors and that kind of stuff. And then there’s me, there’s a picture of me lying down or something. The actual amount of time I work, the 12 hours I’m in the studio I’m lying down for 8 hours. Sleeping and eating, you know…getting ready is what takes the longest.” – Min Yoongi

“I ask myself, ‘Why won’t anything come up?’ Used to stress me out a lot. But now I think, ‘It’ll come out.’ I believe it.” – Min Yoongi

“In a way, we were never really that good, our dancing. Myself too, there were a lot of shortcomings. The vocal side of it too, to be really candid, there was a lot of criticism.” – Jung Hoseok

“To be honest, for me…I thought there will be nothing after ‘Blood Sweat & Tears.’ I figured that would be our peak.” – Kim Namjoon

“We’re doing so many things, not just our concerts. We reached no. 1 on the Billboard chart, we perform at award shows. We receive awards…of course we don’t perform or do music to try to meet all those expectations. But we can’t turn away from those expectations either.” – Min Yoongi

“I think it’s kind of inevitable. To be honest, I bet I’m not the only one like this right now. The other members probably have all kinds of injuries. I’m sure there are aches and pains and I’m sure they keep it to themselves. There are tens of thousands of people right there. Maybe I don’t want to let go of that. I think there are plenty of reasons.” – Park Jimin

“BTS has become big, like this. If I can’t live up to it, can’t fill it up, that’s a lot of pressure and it’s frightening.” – Jeon Jeongguk

“But all the passion and love when we’re on stage, make it shine through. When we’re on stage, it’s all that passion. The hard work and passion. People can recognize sincerity.” – Jung Hoseok

“Music, performance, the stage, those kind of things made me who I am and changed me. At this present moment, it’s my everything.” – Park Jimin

“I honestly don’t remember how we ever did that AX concert. Everything was seriously just so hectic then. It just felt like we were trying to do the best we could. I think we were more fierce in a different way back then. Instead of using our brains, we were just following our body. Doing what we wanted.” – Kim Namjoon

“Each moment was so special back then. All the time, every moment…like, ‘I’m so thankful to be able to perform at AX Hall.’ I’m so thankful for our fans. And that moment was followed by our performance at Gocheok Dome with 25,000 people. We’ve come this far. All those moments were meaningful. I’m thankful because it’s that journey that made me who I am today. That’s one of the main reasons why we’ve come so far.” – Jung Hoseok

“Once you start touring like that…we live for the performance. I’ll say, ‘I have a show tomorrow, so I can’t eat after such and such a time.’ I was never like that before. I didn’t know or care. I didn’t really take care of myself but if I don’t pay attention to the smallest things, it affects my performance the next day. I’m basically living for the performance.” – Min Yoongi

“But if it starts to get repetitive, the show at some point…it begins to start feeling like work. Then you get these different voices colliding within you.” – Min Yoongi

“If I’m overseas for 45 days, staying abroad, lots of people think I’m doing just fine. But after just a week I feel like I’m going to die. Because I know we’re not here on a vacation, going to a museum, going shopping…I really try my best to do all those things. Its’ really hard for me to stay in my hotel room.” – Kim Namjoon

“The happiest I was after I debuted was when I didn’t have to worry about asking myself. ‘What if no one listens?’ I don’t know exactly when that was. It was probably around the time ‘RUN’ came out. Whether no one listens or not, I don’t have to worry about that. At that time for me…wouldn’t that be my happiest moment? When my biggest concern was solved.” – Kim Namjoon

“When people do different things, after a while they forget why they’re doing it. Working and having that work exert a positive impact on society, and then add to that your own passion and such, then that’s more you can ever hope for. That’s the only reason why I wanted to do this. I was lucky I met guys who could make up for my own shortcomings. That’s why I’m able to do this.” – Kim Namjoon

“I’m always saying it but I live my life so that I can love myself. I’m still 25 and it’s not easy because I’m still young. I want to love myself. Should we find a way together?” – Kim Namjoon

“All photographers say the same thing. Grow your sense of feeling first. Sure, pictures are feelings. When you take pictures with your feelings, the moment you wanted to capture can be seen in your picture. They say you should never settle for just enough photos. Feeling, a sense.” – Kim Taehyung

“We can’t come here often. So we think this is a special event that we can do for ARMY. We wanted to give them a great performance and music.” – Kim Taehyung

“It’s support from the fans that makes all of this possible. We need to give back. I just think we should give back as much energy as they feed us.” – Jeon Jeongguk

“I do think that we’ve gotten better. Still I think, ‘If I can do just a little better.’” – Kim Seokjin

“It does occur to me that it might never be perfect. But I want to make it feel perfect at least on that stage. That is J-Hope. That is BTS.” – Jung Hoseok
