X-Men: Days of Future Past director Bryan Singer is just putting the finishing touches on the film, but he’s already hired the writers from X-Men 2 to write the script for X-Men: Apocalypse.

X-Men: Apocalypse was just announced by Singer earlier this month, but now it’s being reported that X-Men 2’s writers Mike Dougherty and Dan Harris will be working on the script with Simon Kinberg.

It was also recently announced that Bryan Singer would officially be directing X-Men: Apocalypse, which should be a good thing as long as Days of Future Past is successful.

X2: X-Men United, was highly successful financially and critically. It was one of the more popular films when comic book movies were untested and unproven. The writers behind the film were certainly vital to the success of the film and we’re glad to hear Singer is bringing them back.

While X-Men: Apocalypse is still a mystery, it’s clear that Singer is in full greenlight mode. It’s almost odd considering he’s still working on X-Men: Days of Future Past, which will be hitting theaters May 23, 2014. Check out the writers with director Bryan Singer below:

In case fans are curious about the new character’s original backstory, Apocalypse is a mutant, but unlike the X-Men, his specific mutations give him an almost God-like amount of power.

He can alter the molecules in his body to become anything. In the past, he’s used his powers to change his form (like Mystique), but also change the needs of his body to match whatever environment he’s in.

He can also regenerate from injury, change his body to be invisible, flexible, incredibly small, or anything else he might need. He also has the ability to give himself any superpower, which as far as we’re concerned is just cheating.

X-Men: Apocalypse almost sounds like a more interesting film than Days of Future Past, but then again its release date is set for May 27, 2016. So while we won’t be seeing it for a few years, it seems we may be getting news from director Bryan Singer on a weekly basis.
