Although Lionsgate has populated the roles of the titular Power Rangers with virtually unknown actors, some big names have attached themselves to the project in order to lend it some gravitas, not least of which the casting of Elizabeth Banks in the role of the film’s main antagonist, Rita Repulsa. Today, one more casting announcement was made via the film’s official Twitter account, and it’s a big one:

In the original TV show, Zordon was the benevolent mentor figure to the Power Rangers, being the one to choose the five of them and give them their morphing powers. It is likely Zordon’s role will be similar in the movie.

This announcement comes relatively late in the schedule, as production on the film has been underway in Vancouver for a few months already. However, the late announcement might make sense if it turns out that Cranston himself doesn’t even have to be present on set, with the role being voiceover-only. In the TV show, Zordon presented himself as a hologram, and there’s been some discarded concept art for the movie going around the internet that suggests the character might be fully animated. If this news is confirmed, it wouldn’t be Cranston’s first time doing voiceover work, as he recently brought to life one of the main characters of Dreamworks Animation’s Kung Fu Panda 3.

In related news, the first Power Rangers teaser poster was released Wednesday morning. “Together we are more,” the poster tells us:

The Power Rangers movie hits theaters on March 24, 2017.
