Bruno Mars has debuted “Locked Out of Heaven,” an upbeat track reminiscent of a Sting/Police tune.

Mars premiered the song during a Google+ Hangout and live chat Monday where he discussed his upcoming sophomore album, Unorthodox Jukebox, out Dec. 11, and took fan questions.

“You make me feel like/ I’ve been locked out of heaven for too long/ for too long,” Mars sings in the chorus.

As for the new album’s title, Mars explained “it represents my personality. I am all over the place and it is unorthodox.”

“This is me going into the studio and recording and writing whatever I want,” Mars told Billboard about his new material. “This album represents my freedom.”

Unorthodox Jukebox is the follow-up to Mars’ 2010 debut album, Doo-wops & Hooligans, which is certified platinum selling more than one million copies. It produced No. 1 singles in “Just The Way You Are” and “Grenade.”

Mars will host and perform “Locked Out of Heaven” for the first time live on Saturday Night Live Oct. 20. It will be his first time hosting, though he was a musical guest in 2010.
