A noise curfew is a noise curfew. Even for Bruce Springsteen and Paul McCartney.

The legendary duo had their microphones switched off at London’s Hyde Park Saturday after playing past the city’s 10:30 p.m. noise curfew, the Guardian reports.

Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band were scheduled to play until 10:15 p.m., but went over time after inviting McCartney to the stage to play “I Saw Her Standing There” and “Twist and Shout.”

Organizers pulled the plug on the encore, leaving the rockers to exit the Hard Rock Calling 2012 stage without thanking the fans. Watch as Springsteen tries addressing the crowd, following his performance with McCartney, in the video below.

A spokesperson from Live Nation – the organizer of the event – explained the decision to shut off the mics on the Hard Rock Calling website.

“It was unfortunate that the three-hour-plus performance by Bruce Springsteen was stopped right at the very end but the curfew is laid down by the authorities in the interest of the public’s health and safety.”

E Street Band guitarist Steven Van Zandt took to Twitter following the incident.

Assuring people this would not happen during the Olympics, London Mayor Boris Johnson called the incident “an excessively efficacious decision” and told LBC Radio he would have let Springsteen and McCartney continue to “jam in the name of the Lord.”

Should Springsteen and McCartney have been allowed to continue to play past curfew?
