Holt learns to cook, Rosa is sick and Jake gets involved in Amy’s relationship on Brooklyn Nine-Nine season 2, episode 9, “Road Trip.”

When a perp belonging to the Nine-Nine is found in upstate New York, it’s up to Amy and Jake to collect him at some ridiculous hour the next morning. Hence: the need for a stay at a B&B, and the premise for “Road Trip” is established.

Jake explains to Amy why, because they’re not technically on duty, he invited Sophia (Eva Longoria) to stay the night with him. Amy is touched at his gesture, as Teddy had never done anything spontaneous or romantic for her. Detective Cupid (Jake) calls Teddy and arranges to have him surprise Amy that night.

At the bed and breakfast, Maple Drip Inn, Sophia checks them into the Room of a Thousand Dolls. Jake and Sophia work because they’re a little bit crazy and like things that others would find strange. Both find the room “super creepy,” when it is really next-level, Annabelle creepy.

While Sophia is looking for a romantic night, Jake suggests a very un-romantic, fully-clothed night spent with two other people who have fallen out of love: Teddy and Amy. All Teddy does with his free time is bottle beer, and Amy bemoans the fact the spark in their relationship is gone. Amy’s plan to break up was to meet him at a very well-lit restaurant all the way in Manhattan next week. She wants to make it a clean break up, but with tension running high tonight, their relationship might crash and burn sooner than anticipated.

Detective Teddy seems to be off-duty at dinner, he’s completely oblivious to how awkward Amy, Jake and Sophia are acting. Amy snaps, and breaks up with him before the soup course even arrives. She calls him boring; Jake and Sophia try to intervene, then they try to leave, to no avail: Teddy has dragged Jake into their argument.

He blames Jake for their lack of spark. Amy told Teddy about Jake’s confessions before and after working his undercover case. When Teddy points out that Amy got confused both times, it was probably because she liked him back. Her response when Jake asks her for confirmation: a very sheepish “maybe.”

Back in the Nine-Nine:

Captain Holt seeks Boyle’s help to arrange a romantic breakfast for Kevin and his’s anniversary the next day. According to Boyle, the first step in learning how to cook is learning how to taste. Holt would eat beige-tasting liquid if it gave him all the nutrients needed to survive, making it painful for Boyle to try to teach him how to cook. When it comes to gifts, like food, it’s the thought that counts. Unsurprisingly, Holt is a natural chef, walking into work the next morning with a perfectly made fancy-looking sandwich he learned to make that day.

Rosa Diaz is sick. Rosa Diaz is in denial about her sickness. Her dedication to finding a Giggle Pig drug supplier kept her at work all day. As she roams around the office, Terry and Gina act like she’s the germ devil, spreading germs everywhere. The funniest moment of “Road Trip” was when, after being locked in a storage closet against her will and sleeping for ten hours, Rosa shatters the door’s window to let herself out. Gina then presents her with a get-well care page, and Rosa actually smiles!

We know Eva Longoria only has one more episode left in her Brooklyn Nine-Nine guest starring role, and we’re going to assume that’ll be to officially break up with Jake. With presumably both Jake and Amy back on the market, maybe something “romantic stylez” can ignite between them.
