Secrets both big and small were revealed on tonight’s Brooklyn Nine-Nine season 2, episode 5, “The Mole.” Check out our recap!

After learning there is possibly a mole in the precinct, Captain Holt informs Jake that Lieutenant Miller of the internal affairs board will be questioning everyone to try and find the leak. Lieutenant Miller does scrutinize Jake, who brushes him off when Miller suggests someone took home confidential files.

But whoops! Jake confides in Amy that he may have left some case files at his old apartment. Because his car is out of commission, he asks for her help to get to his place and she begrudgingly obliges to drive him.

Before they leave though, they run into Deputy Chief Wuntch. She criticizes Holt for the careless way he seems to be running his precinct, with a possible mole on the loose and little return on the drug task force that was set in place.

Captain Holt to Deputy Chief Wuntch when she walks in: “I wondered why all of the birds had suddenly stopped ringing.”

In turn, Holt goes breathing down Rosa and Terry’s necks to find something tangible and substantial to turn over. He wants a major drug bust from this task force in order to both get Madeline Wuntch off his back, and to shove his success in her face. Rosa and Terry go undercover at a silent disco and do find a dealer – an innocent-looking 20-something. She doesn’t drink or do drugs so she can have a clear head for when she deals the drugs.

When Jake and Amy return to Jake’s old apartment – Gina’s current one – they find Charles and Gina in matching silk robes, making out on the coach. After Jake and Amy leave, Gina and Charles call off their ‘relationship’ and Gina actually confesses to the entire precinct that they slept together 16 and three-quarters’ times. She doesn’t regret it and he’s happy to have had a no-strings attached relationship for once.

Gina texts Amy to meet her at the bar that night. She’s disappointed about breaking up with Charles and is looking for a relationship like Amy and Teddy’s. Amy confides in her that her relationship isn’t perfect, or even really great. It’s an insignificant scene, unless it plants the seed that Amy and Teddy are on the road to splits-ville by the seasons’ end.

Jake ends up spending all night at Holt’s house, changing into a guest pajama set somewhere around 3:00 a.m. as they work to find the mole that resides in the precinct. But when Jake starts accusing Holt of being the mole (around 4:00 a.m.) he demands Jake begin his suspension from the NYPD.

The next morning, Jake pieces together the facts that there is no mole in the precinct and Lieutenant Miller is being Madeline Wuntch’s spy to find out what Holt and his team has for the drug task force. Holt and Jake catch Wuntch and Miller colluding red-handed, so at least we know we can still trust the rest of the team.

Now for a game of Which Show had a Weirder Product Placement? New Girl when they had Jess model a Ford car as a plot point, or Brooklyn Nine-Nine tonight where they put Amy in a new VW? The cuts were strangely edited, highlighting features of the car such as seat warmers and voice-activated calls.

Next week on Brooklyn Nine-Nine: Eva Longoria begins her guest stint as defense attorney Sophia Perez in Brooklyn Nine-Nine season 2, episode 6, “Jake and Sophia.”
