Jake thought he was pulling one over on Holt, but who really got the upper hand? Check out our Brooklyn Nine-Nine season 2, episode 4, “Halloween II,” recap!

It’s October 31 in the Brooklyn 99, and Jake is looking to set up round two of his annual Halloween bet with Captain Holt: steal the watch off Holt’s wrist. When Jake five-druples the amount of overtime he is willing to do – five weeks of overtime for free – Holt does a quick opportunity cost in his head. They have reached an accord and the game is afoot!

Jake hires criminal Dan “Fingers” to help swipe the watch off Holt and employs the other precinct employees to distract Holt throughout the night to ensure the plan goes off without a hitch.

Foreseeing this, Holt decides to lock himself in his office where he could be safe from Jake’s antics. Alas, in a Rube Goldberg-like sequence, Jake smokes him out of his office and gets the watch off his wrist, putting a replica in its place. When Jake goes to pick up the watch from Fingers, it turns out once a criminal, always a criminal, and Fingers is gone.

Boyle and Jake eventually track down Fingers, who takes Jake’s shoes and $122 from Boyle in exchange for the watch. But they were tricked once again, when Fingers reveals the watch was in the glove compartment of Jake’s car the whole time. The car that is being towed away that very second, as Jake parked in front of a fire hydrant.

Back at the precinct, Terry sits down with Gina to talk with her about why she’s ditching responsibilities at work. Turns out, her dance team, Floorgasm, kicked (danced) her out of the group, and she has been trying to take night classes at a college. Between the two, Gina’s been wearing herself thin, leaving little time to focus on things. Like her full-time day job.

Jake, after breaking into the NYPD car impound lot, is brought into the precinct and Holt seems furious. In an effort to come clean, Jake reveals the watch Holt is wearing is the fake, but is it? Turns out, Holt is wearing two identical watches!

If anyone ever doubted Holt’s brilliance, now is not the time. The entire evening was meticulously planned by him, a year ago. He subconsciously planted the seeds into Jake’s impressionable head, secretly allowing Jake to plan this inane plan, all to have it go awry as Holt was always a few steps ahead of him.

Aghast, Jake tells Holt he has started planning next year’s bet that very minute. Holt replies, “Good, then you’re only three months behind.” Shots fired!
