When a chance to work with a great local detective comes around, Jake and Amy are both eager to work with him, but Det. Majors might have more than professional interest in the case.

‘Brooklyn Nine-Nine’ season 2, episode 21 recap

Rosa’s wearing pink! Alert! Alert! Rosa’s wearing pink! In an effort to expose the injustice of no one teasing Rosa about the pink shirt and everyone ALWAYS teasing him about his clothes, Boyle reminds everyone about an unfortunate wardrobe choice of his, and that resurrects an old nickname, Mr. Grapes.

A tough, new case requires someone to partner up with a kickass Det. Majors, Peralta volunteers, but Santiago is just as eager for the opportunity.

Terry returns from his lunch with Gary the recruiter for Copperheads to a tough decision. He has a lot on his plate at the moment, and a raise and better hours at this other job are pretty tempting terms to turn down.

Jake’s brand of humor seems to have meshed with Det. Dave Majors better than Amy’s, so when the Detective asks him to a private speakeasy, Jake thinks he’s won. He then learns that Majors wants to ask Amy out after they wrap the case, and Jake seems the slightest bit jealous about it.

Peralta returns to the precinct, and when Rosa asks him about his evening, Jake admits to still having feelings for Amy. Rosa advises him to tell Amy before the case is solved, that way she knows her options before Majors asks her out.

They get some bad news about the case, but Jake has only one thing on his mind. He pulls Amy away to ask her out, but covers with a dumb video when Majors interrupts them to report about the newest victim of the baby-faced robbers.

Boyle and Gina are trying to win Terry over to keep him at the Nine-Nine, so flavored yogurt and baby pictures are on the docket. Just as they think it’s starting to work, Holt ruins their progress with a demand for Terry to digitize all his case files before the next morning.

Rosa asks Jake how things are going, and when Jake can’t give her an affirmative on Amy’s most obvious move, the double tuck, she tells him to go show her how much he cares by interrupting her date.

Jake goes to intercept Amy at the speakeasy after he solved the case a little too fast, but since he doesn’t know the password, he’s forced to find another way in. He picks the fire exit door, and enters just in time to see Amy do the double tuck. Is Jake too late?

Terry returns the next morning to let Boyle and Gina in on the good news, that he’s turned down Copperhead, and returned everything but the puffy vest, which may or may not have exploded thanks to some unfortunate mirror flexing.

Det. Majors tells Jake that his date with Amy was a big swing and a miss. This info sends Jake rushing off to find Amy. She lets him know that she has a new rule: No dating cops. This doesn’t bode well for the Jake/Amy romance in the future. But in the last show of the episode, we see Amy do her double tuck as Jake walks out of the room. Hope is not lost!
