Check out all the highlights from when Jake’s dad visited him in NYC on tonight’s episode of Brooklyn Nine-Nine season 2!

‘Brooklyn Nine-Nine’ season 2, episode 18 recap:

Jake asks Boyle where to take his dad to dinner, but since Jake’s dad hasn’t been around much since Jake was about 7 years old, Charles is a little skeptical as to why he’s suddenly here.

Holt presents a word puzzle to the rest of the precinct, and lets them all know that whomever solves it first gets two tickets to the next Beyonce concert. While Rosa wasn’t at all interested before hearing the prize, she perks up at the mention. ‘Cause Marcus loves Beyonce, of course. Gina and Terry are also geeked for a chance at Beyonce tickets, while Amy is just excited to have a puzzle to solve.

Jake’s dad, Captain Peralta (Captain as in pilot-captain, not police-work captain), arrives and introduces himself with a tale involving a bird flying into his plane’s intake while his lead pilot suffered a stroke. He brags that he landed that flight on a highway, and most of the Nine-Nine seems impressed. Jake runs off to show his dad around the place (and maybe let his dad interview a perp or two… despite Terry’s strong objections).

Jake’s dad finally reveals his real reason for the visit. He got caught with some prescription drugs and he’s hoping that Jake can help clear up this little ‘misunderstanding’ for him.

Jake presents the case to the detectives, and Boyle loses no time in reiterating his ‘I told you so.’ Jake goes to Canada to help his dad out, and Captain insists that he take Boyle with him. Jake offers to take Scully with them too, which Captain is all to happy to agree to.

Amy tries to use doughnuts to help her and Terry solve the puzzle, but thanks to doughnuts being Terry’s trigger food, the islanders disappear mighty quickly… into Terry’s stomach. Yum.

As soon as Jake, Boyle and Scully land in Canada with Captain Peralta, Jake’s dad is arrested. They’re holding him without bail, and it seems pretty hopeless, but when Jake realizes that maybe his dad’s mistress might be the culprit, as only she would have access to both his bag and his apartment, they don a couple of pilot’s suits and try to get some answers at the Commodore’s Club.

Amy and Terry thought they had the puzzle solved, but two seconds into the review, Holt gave her the ‘nope.’ Safe to say, Gina’s happier than we’ve ever seen her. Gina soon realizes that Captain doesn’t even know the answer, and he admits that his old C.O. is still giving him grief over it. He ultimately takes Gina’s advice to basically tell him to shove it, and she wins the tickets.

Despite a major fail with the Commodore Club bartender, Jake did manage to pick up her prints, and exonerates his father. Back in the Nine-nine, Captain Peralta proposes drinks on him at the bar that night in celebration, but never shows. Jake decides there’s no forgiving Dad this time, and when he shows up to his dad’s hotel room, he lets him have it, and takes his Captain’s hat. Just because.
