ITV announced today that the Broadchurch cast will be back for season 2.

Specifically, cast members David Tennant, Olivia Colman, Jodie Whittaker, Andrew Buchan, and Arthur Darvill will all be reprising their roles when season 2 begins filming in the coming days.

Buchan plays Ellie’s husband, who we learn is Danny’s killer at the end of season 1. It’ll be interesting to see what his involvement is like now that he’s being thrown in jail for his actions.

While no details were shared about the plot in today’s announcement, ITV’s director of drama feels great about the new episodes. “We’re delighted Broadchurch is back in production, but we’re remaining tight-lipped about how the story develops. Suffice to say [creator Chris Chibnall] has delivered as always and the scripts are just as exciting as the first series.”

In related news, Broadchurch is being adapted for U.S. television on Fox under the name Gracepoint, even though the original show aired on BBC America last year. Gracepoint will also star David Tennant, but Anna Gunn has the role of Ellie Miller instead of Colman. The remake is set to air this Fall, and the network says it has a different ending than Broadchurch even though it follows roughly the same story and characters.

A release date for Broadchurch season 2 hasn’t been set, but needless to say, we’re excited about it.

We hope that Fox’s Gracepoint only runs for one season so that Tennant doesn’t have to continue appearing on both versions of the same show. He spoke about his decision to do Gracepoint in an interview we shared in February.
