This morning Fox announced two major additions to their adaptation of the BBC hit series Broadchurch, arriving on television next year.

Breaking Bad’s Anna Gunn has been cast as Detective Ellie Miller who works opposite Detective Emmett (played by David Tennant). In addition, Jacki Weaver (Silvering Linings Playbook) will portray Susan Wright.

Fox also announced a new name for the show: Gracepoint.

The show appears to be very similar in plot to the BBC original series. The character description for Ellie paints her as “a happily married wife and mother who is looking forward to a promised promotion. When the job goes to outsider Detective Emmett, Ellie is disgruntled – but her disappointment quickly fades in light of tragedy, and she must work her very first murder case with her prickly new partner. As the case progresses, she’ll have to look at her hometown, and those she cares about, through a different prism.”

A description for Susan Wright says she’s a “glowering, mysterious woman who is new to town and lives in the RV park, alone with her dog. She works various cleaning and odd jobs and prefers to remain anonymous, but has a dark history kept fiercely hidden.”

Both descriptions sound similar to the characters in Broadchurch, but we hope that the show will have different plot twists for viewers who have already watched the original.

Fox says Gracepoint will premiere during the 2014 – 2015 season. Meanwhile, Broadchurch season 2 is already in the works in the U.K.
