Britney Spears may have indefinitely postponed her latest Vegas residency, but that isn’t stopping a Spears-themed musical from heading to Broadway.

The music of Britney Spears is iconic. Whether you are old enough to distinctly remember the first time you heard “Hit Me Baby One More Time” on the radio, or if you found her music years after her first single released, her songs are too fun and too catchy to hate.

So it’s no surprise that her music has inspired a new musical that is making its way to Broadway. As Variety reports, the musical Once Upon a One More Time is a musical that features 23 Britney Spears songs.

However, while the musical uses the songs of Britney Spears, the musical itself isn’t about the iconic songstress. Once Upon a One More Time actually centers around the Disney princesses, and a humorous take on their stories. As Variety reports, the show’s book writer, John Hartmere explained the story a bit more to reporters.

“Cinderella is having an existential crisis, and she has a posse of famous princesses, and her stepmother is the main antagonist, and there’s also Prince Charming and a dwarf we’ve never met — the eighth dwarf — and a narrator who is unhappy his system is being dismantled before his eyes. These women have been in this hermetically sealed world, and then they start to get deeper into modern ideas — second and third-wave feminism — and also explore how stories are passed down to us, and where we get our norms from. But it’s also superfun and funny.”

While Spears isn’t a part of the musical’s story, it doesn’t mean she hasn’t been involved in the show at all. As Hartmere explains, she has attended a reading of the script. Variety reports that she was over the moon to see a princess musical heading to Broadway using her music.

This musical is going to be a fun mashup of pop culture touchpoints, blending in the music of Britney Spears with the stories of Disney princesses.

Once Upon a One More Time will premiere in the fall at the James M. Nederlander Theatre in Chicago, opening on October 29, and then will head to Broadway from there. Until then, we’ll be brushing up on our Britney Spears music to get ready for the show’s big opening night.
