Bridgerton fans hoping to see more of Regé-Jean Page as the Duke on season 2 might not want to hold their breath.

Apparently, Bridgerton breakout Regé-Jean Page, who stole the hearts of millions with his portrayal of the Duke of Hastings, won’t be appearing in season 2 of the series.

The news of Page’s departure (fittingly) came from Lady Whistledown herself in an announcement that was posted to Bridgerton’s official Twitter account.

“Your Grace, it has been a pleasure,” reads the tweet posted on Friday (April 2), which also features a special edition of Lady Whistledown’s Society Papers that clues fans into the big news.

The announcement reveals that Page departs from the series as season 2 prepares to shine a spotlight on the eldest Bridgerton boy, Lord Anthony.

“While all eyes turn to Lord Anthony Bridgerton’s quest to find a Viscountess, we bid adieu to Regé-Jean Page, who so triumphantly played the Duke of Hastings,” reads the announcement. “We’ll miss Simon’s presence onscreen, but he will always be a part of the Bridgerton family.”

Interestingly, the announcement also reveals that despite Simon’s absence, fans can still look forward to seeing Phoebe Dynevor return as Daphne Bridgerton.

“Daphne will remain a devoted wife and sister, helping her brother navigate the upcoming social season and what it has to offer,” continues the statement. “More intrigue and romance than my readers may be able to bear.”

Production on Bridgerton season 2 is already up and running, though there’s currently no word on when we might expect to see the show return to Netflix with new episodes.

As for Regé-Jean Page, the actor has quite a few high profile projects coming down the pipeline.

Currently, he’s set to star opposite Chris Evans and Ryan Gosling in Netflix’s The Gray Man. Additionally, he’ll also be joining Chris Pine in the big screen adaptation of Dungeons and Dragons.
