It was difficult for us to accept that Bridemaids 2 wouldn’t see the light of day, but star Kristen Wiig says she didn’t feel the same way.

“It wasn’t a hard decision,” she told Harper Bazaar in a new interview published today. “We knew during the first one, this was it. We would have made a lot of money if there was a second one, but that’s not my goal in my creative life.”

Wiig obviously feels that creating a Bridesmaids sequel would have been too easy for her to do when her career is skyrocketing upward. The surprise hit starred Wiig, Melissa McCarthy, Maya Rudolph, and other female funny ladies who created one of the best ensemble casts in recent comedy history.

Bridesmaids studio Universal appears to be working on ideas for a sequel whether or not Kristen Wiig is involved. “We are talking to filmmakers now about concepts, and if the right one emerges, we’ll move forward,” they said in January.

Soon after that statement broke, McCarthy said that she would only do a sequel if the film was great and all of the original ladies were on board.

We wonder how Wiig feels about projects like Pitch Perfect, who we learned recently will get a sequel of its own in summer 2015.

Without Wiig on board, and all the ladies committing only if everyone else wants to be involved, it looks like Bridesmaids 2 will never go into production. However, if Wiig suddenly developed an original and creative idea for a sequel, we wouldn’t be surprised if she backtracked.

Thanks to Harpers Bazaar.
