A behind-the-scenes featurette available on Twilight Forever (in stores starting today) reveals the original look of Bella and Edward’s Renesmee, and it’s very creepy looking.

Referred to as Chuckesme by the crew, the mechanical doll was the original Renesmee before the crew decided that the doll just didn’t look the part of the baby.

“Chuckesme is one of the most terrifying CGI babies to ever not be seen on film,” says producer Wyck Godfrey.

The doll was used while filming, but once it appeared on camera they realized that it wasn’t going to work. Actress Nikki Reed, who had to hold the doll, admits that she was creeped out and wasn’t able to look comfortable holding it. “I want the whole world to forgive me,” she says, “because I’m holding a 60 pound mechanical doll. And me and the doll have to move our bodies at the same time, so I’ve got two men sitting right below me and they’re doing puppet stuff.”

Godfrey explained why they had to instead use CGI to depict Renesmee. “We were trying to create something that was other worldly with Renesmee in the movie. She has to be intelligent yet still look like a baby but actually look like a more mature baby than one would be at one day old. So we ended up shooting it, and the second you’re holding it up you realize this is never going to work. No fake thing is ever going to do the trick. If you’re Bella you’re looking at it going, ‘I don’t want that thing. Put it back.'”
