Actress Anna Gunn is well aware of the Skyler White hate that takes place amongst Breaking Bad fans and speaks out about it in a New York Times op-ed piece.

Published on Saturday, Gunn examines why viewers have hated the character and slowly transitioned their hate from Skyler to the actress herself.

“The already harsh online comments [about Skyler] became outright personal attacks,” she writes late in the article. “One such post read: ‘Could somebody tell me where I can find Anna Gunn so I can kill her?’ Besides being frightened (and taking steps to ensure my safety), I was also astonished: how had disliking a character spiraled into homicidal rage at the actress playing her?”

She concludes that it has to do with viewers’ stance on women. “I finally realized that most people’s hatred of Skyler had little to do with me and a lot to do with their own perception of women and wives. Because Skyler didn’t conform to a comfortable ideal of the archetypical female, she had become a kind of Rorschach test for society, a measure of our attitudes toward gender.”

We have to agree with Gunn’s view on why people hate Skyler and, unfortunately, the actress herself.

Her article comes at an interesting time because Skyler is now breaking bad herself as we saw in last Sunday’s episode when she decides to take Walt’s side in the feud with Hank.
