A Breaking Bad sequel movie is happening, starring Aaron Paul, and it’s headed to Netflix and then AMC.

Update (July 9): Well friends, it looks like we got our hopes up for nothing. After both Bryan Cranston and Aaron Paul posted new images on Monday, many started to raise their eyebrows that the big announcement wasn’t about Breaking Bad at all, but a new alcohol the two were launching.

As it would turn out, our fears were right and the big reveal has nothing to do with the Breaking Bad movie at all. Instead, Cranston and Paul are teaming up to bring the world a brand new Mezcal the two collaborated on called Dos Hombres.

So while we have to wait a bit longer to get any news about the new Breaking Bad movie (and to learn if Bryan Cranston will make an appearance as Walter White at all), at least we’re not in suspense anymore. And if Mezcal is your thing, it sounds like this will be a pretty tasty alcohol to have on your shelf. You can head to their official Dos Hombres Instagram or website if you want to find out how to snag a bottle of the stuff that duped Breaking Bad fans around the globe.

Update (July 3): Aaron Paul and Bryan Cranston both sent out another cryptic image on their Twitters and Instagrams. This time, however, the image is of the two of them, and it has the caption “even sooner.”

Both the image and the caption are the same on both Cranston and Paul’s socials. So what does this mean?

It’s still unclear–though the popular theory is it is tied to the Breaking Bad movie. To that end, Bryan Cranston did stray from the coordinated posts with Paul to post this photo on his Instagram:

Of course, this could just be an artsy photo Cranston had someone snap, but it is giving us some serious Heisenberg vibes. A quick look in the comments shows you that lots of other people think that, too. It certainly feels like a throwback to that iconic Breaking Bad poster that showed Walt and Jesse with part of their faces obscured.

We can’t wait to see what Aaron Paul and Bryan Cranston have been teasing, and we’ve got our fingers crossed for an epic reunion of the two (even though it will likely be in flashback or a “voice in the head” style reunion) in the upcoming Breaking Bad movie.

Update (June 25): Is an official announcement about the Breaking Bad movie coming soon? On Tuesday, series stars Bryan Cranston and Aaron Paul both tweeted a cryptic photo of two donkeys, with the caption “Soon.”

Hopefully these tweets mean an announcement is coming later this week. Stay tuned!

Original Story (February 2019): Several rumors have floated around that a Breaking Bad sequel movie was headed our way focusing on Aaron Paul’s character, Jesse Pinkman. Those rumors have now been confirmed by a reputable source, and a feature-length Breaking Bad sequel film is seemingly headed our way.

As The Hollywood Reporter states, the film will premiere on Netflix first, and then it will air on AMC. It is a fascinating reversal for how both Breaking Bad and the show’s prequel series Better Call Saul released to audiences–first releasing on AMC and then traveling to Netflix. According to Hollywood Reporter, both AMC and Netflix declined to comment on this unique release arrangement.

Though the arrangements for its release might be a bit unorthodox, the Breaking Bad movie is sticking with the team it knows best to create the movie. Vince Gilligan, the original series creator, is set to write the script for the film, and in addition to Paul reprising his role as Jesse Pinkman, Bryan Cranston has confirmed on an appearance on the Dan Patrick Show that he would reprise his role as Walter White if he was asked.

Of course, while Jesse Pinkman’s story did end quite ambiguously with Jesse escaping into the unknown, Walter White’s story ended a bit more definitively. Walter was fatally shot in the final moments of the show, so his return would have to be in the form of flashback, dream, or hallucination, but Cranston said he was excited at the possibility of, “seeing all those people again, even if I just come by to visit.”

Outside of Paul’s return to his role as Jesse Pinkman, there is no other casting news. We will have to wait for more news to break on this show to see if the film will feature a return from Heisenberg, and when we can expect to see the film premiere on Netflix and AMC.
