Another classic story will be adapted for serialized television: the story of William Wallace, better known as Braveheart.

The Hollywood Reporter has learned that a William Wallace biopic is in the works. It is described as, “A historical drama series based on the life of the war hero.”

The story, best known for Mel Gibson’s 1995 film of the same name, focuses on the Scottish warrior working to unify Scotland, and the TV series will examine his backstory, his loves and losses and his rivalries with King Edward the Longshank and Robert the Bruce.

Mick Davis will write and create the project, which will be produced by STV Productions. Director of contents Alan Clements has stated:

We plan to delve deep into his character and explore his passions, bringing parts of history to life in a spectacular and raw depiction.  With all eyes on Scotland in the current political climate, this also seems to be a very appropriate time to tell this story in more depth.

Do you think a television series based on Braveheart could work? Anyone else imagining a male Xena: the Warrior Princess?
