Hulu’s The Handmaid’s Tale has officially added Emmy Award winner Bradley Whitford to its cast.

According to Variety, Transparent actor Bradley Whitford has officially joined the cast of The Handmaid’s Tale season 2 in a fairly big role.

The actor, who many may know from his Emmy Award winning performance in The West Wing, will be featured in a recurring role when new episodes of the dystopian drama begin airing via Hulu later this year.

When the Margaret Atwood adaptation returns, viewers will see Whitford playing Commander Joseph, the architect of Gilead’s economy.

Commander Joseph is described as being “gruff and intimidating” with a “disheveled mad genius vibe.” At the moment, it’s unclear whether he’s a man that should be trusted or not.

Given his penchant for showing kindness every now and again, it sounds as though whichever Handmaid is assigned to him will have a hard time figuring out what to make of him.

Thanks to the first official trailer for the second season, which dropped just last month, we know that The Handmaid’s Tale season 2 will be offering fans a glimpse of what lie beyond the confines of Gilead.

As exciting as it is to know that we’ll be exploring the wasteland known as “The Colonies,” we’ll be looking forward to seeing what else unfolds within the confines of Gilead— especially now that we know the series is gearing up to introduce a few new players that could shake things up in a major way!

The Handmaid’s Tale season 2 is set to premiere on Hulu in April of 2018.
