Bradley Cooper and Lady Gaga’s vocal chops are on display in the first big trailer for their remake of A Star is Born.

Cooper makes his directorial debut in this oft-remade story about a down-on-his-luck performer Jackson Maine who comes across the undiscovered Ally (played by Gaga). The two stars both show off their voices in the trailer. Notably, Cooper gets a surprisingly large amount of singing time against his professional co-star:

Those gorgeous desert scenes were filmed during Coachella 2017. The studio confirms all music in the film is original and was recorded live.

According to a synopsis from Roadshow, “In this new take on the tragic love story, [Cooper] plays seasoned musician Jackson Maine, who discovers—and falls in love with—struggling artist Ally (Gaga). She has just about given up on her dream to make it big as a singer… until Jack coaxes her into the spotlight. But even as Ally’s career takes off, the personal side of their relationship is breaking down, as Jack fights an ongoing battle with his own internal demons.”

A Star is Born also features Andrew Dice Clay, Dave Chappelle, and Sam Elliott.

Though relatively new to the acting scene, Gaga looks like she stands up impressively against Cooper and the rest of the cast. The movie hits theaters this October.
