As Brad Bird inches closer to completing the script for The Incredibles 2, Pixar moves up the anticipated sequel.

Pixar fans were elated to learn earlier this year that The Incredibles 2 is finally happening, with Tomorrowland‘s Brad Bird back at the helm.

Speaking to Collider recently, Bird revealed his progress on the script, saying, “I have the story arc, I’m probably three-quarters through the script, first pass through the script, but we’re already boarding parts of it.”

In even better news, Bird confirmed that Pixar is moving Incredibles 2 up in the schedule! “Incredibles was supposed to happen after Cars [3], and our wheels just happened to click a little earlier so they moved us up,” he said.

That stills means waiting until at least 2018, but it’s awesome nonetheless!

But what exactly can we expect from Incredibles 2? Bird offered Collider some hints, talking about what’s changed in the years since the original movie was released in 2004.

“What’s changed is there were only two other superhero franchises at the time Incredibles came out,” Bird reflected. “One of them was X-Men and the other was Spider-Man, and now there are 400 billion of them and there’s a new superhero movie every two weeks. What you don’t want to do is trot over the same turf in the same way everyone else is. So we’re trying to keep it focused in the area that our film was, which was a little bit more about characters and relationships and stuff like that, and see where that takes us.”

We can’t wait. But we’ll have to. But we can’t.
