The Disney Channel’s upcoming Boy Meets World sequel is looking for its lead.

As production on Girl Meets World gets going, we are learning small details about the characters, namely Cory Matthews’ chosen profession and his daughter’s name.

Cory and Topanga’s teen daughter will be named Riley, Entertainment Weekly reports. Apparently, the high school sweethearts decided against Beverly Glen – the name future Cory and Topanga choose for their baby daughter in season 7’s “Seven the Hard Way.” Then again, that is the episode where Cory, Topanga, Shawn, Angela, Jack and Rachel stop speaking to each other after playful pranks get out of hand. The episode looks ahead seven years to when the gang reunites at Mr. Feeny’s retirement party and no one but Cory and Topanga have kept in touch, and even they are having to attend marriage counseling. The fact that the newest addition to the Matthews clan isn’t named Beverly Glen may bode well for the perseverance of Cory’s friendships, hopefully leaving the door open for guest roles for Uncle Eric, Uncle Shawn and Mr. Feeny. Who doesn’t want a good Feeny call after all? Mr. Mattheeeeewwsss just doesn’t have the same ring to it.

The casting call for Riley, according to EW, follows:

[RILEY MATTHEWS] Please submit all ethnicities. 13 years old, indelible personality, an adorable girl on the cusp of whatever comes next in life, and wanting to rush into it head first. She is fiercely loyal to her friends, and spends most of her time juggling the obstacles that life throws her way, some of those being her father who is also her seventh grade history teacher, her mother who is Topanga, and her brother, Elliot, who is one grade older in school and in life experience and makes sure to always let her know it. But there is no obstacle in this girl’s world that can dampen her bright spirit and eternal optimism. Series Lead.

From the description above, it sounds like Riley will take from her father. We were hoping for a young Topanga (think hippie, interpretive dance era) but maybe she’ll have her mother’s intelligence. She’ll also have an older brother who sounds a bit like a young Eric Matthews. Are Cory and Topanga even old enough to have 13 and 14-year-old kids? They didn’t have kids when Boy Meets World ended in 2000.

We also learn that Cory followed in Mr. Feeny’s footsteps and chose a career as a history teacher. Hard to believe considering he spent most of middle school and high school sleeping in class, but people change, right?

Another casting call is out for Riley’s best friend Maya – a Shawn-like, “dark and edgy” character who never met her father (Chet much?).

[MAYA] Please submit all ethnicities. 13 years old. Maya is Riley’s best friend and does not share Riley’s optimism. She is far darker and less trusting of the world. She is an only child and has never known her father, which immediately makes her relationship with both Riley and Cory Matthews very important to her although she’d never admit it. She is not a good student in school, but is a wonderful student of life and absolutely magnetic in attracting or intimidating the people in her sphere as she cares to. Dark and edgy, but just as fiercely loyal to Riley as Riley is to her. Which makes us want to believe that maybe there’s a good heart under the acerbic wit. Or maybe not. Series Regular.

TVLine first reported the news of a Boy Meets World spin-off, helmed by BMW creator and executive producer Michael Jacobs, last week. Early reports suggest the Disney Channel is in talks with Ben Savage and Danielle Fishel to reprise their roles as Cory and Topanga. Following the news, Fishel took to Twitter to tease fans a bit.

While Fishel and Savage are keeping mum on the subject, Lily Nicksay, the original Morgan from 1993-1995, told TMZ she’d “love to talk [to Disney] about being a part of it.”

What do you think of these character descriptions? Who would you cast in the roles?
